ACCATTONE #4 OUT SOON
Accattone #4 addresses architecture through mythical methods and visual ethnographies. It stems from the idea of collection to explore the dimension of myth in contemporary practices, with an interest in the compression of long ages of history, power relationships, memories and everyday experience into a single artefact, an architectural project, an exhibition.
Anthropology museums, data centres and minor collections performed in private houses; Bataille’s magazine Documents, Lyotard’s Immatériaux and Caillois’s Writing of Stones; double-sided masks and architectural strata in a floor slab or a facade; totemic 1:1 scale mock-ups and metaphors in the desert.
We thank Pierres et Marbres de Wallonie

Issues 2 and 3 are still available:
Accattone is an independent editorial project based in Brussels.
It is a dedicated space for architecture documents: an interview, a visual essay, a drawing, are laid out as fragments of a montage transversal to the issue. Contents are manipulated mostly through their visual condition. From their sheer confrontation, several themes emerge. The printed format and its slow periodicity combine the characteristics of the work-in-progress with the finiteness of the object.
Issue 1 features artists and architects dealing with found forms, state transformations and 1:1 scale models.
With documents by Jaro Straub, Victor Horta, Simon Boudvin, Anne Holtrop, Bas Princen, Maaike Lauwaert, De Vylder Vinck Taillieu, Ludwig Mies van Der Rohe, Robbrecht en Daem, Christiane Lange, Sandro Della Noce Gilles Pourtier Guillaume Gattier, Alvar Aalto, Oscar Tuazon.
Issue 2 draws on several themes from the first issue — material shifts, models and model-like buildings, the role of images in the design process — to address specific methods and approaches which challenge established codes: bricolage, minor architecture, personal narratives and collections. Each contribution resonates with the others through analogies and faux amis
, experimentations on editorial devices and shared positions towards reality, history and representation.
With documents by Aurélien Froment, Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Baukunst, Manuel Montenegro, René Heyvaert, Jean Renaudie, Studio Tom Emerson at ETH, 6a architects, Good Times & Nocturnal News, Eric Lapierre, Brandlhuber+, Erica Overmeer, Martinez Barat Lafore.
Issue 3 is a single content magazine specially produced for The Corner Show
. Both an autonomous object and a continuation of Accattone #2, it consists in a 96 x 64 cm poster foldable into an 8-page publication. Martinez Barat Lafore collect 137 images and quotations inherent to their conceptual and built work, through sketch-up renderings, scanned drawings, professional photographs or mobile phone shots. The corner is a transversal theme to their practice: line, form, way of living, it becomes wedge, moulding and skirting board, inalienable furniture, partitioning wall. The architects embrace the everyday with the gaze sharpened by meaningful fragments of their experience — forms to be analysed, conceptualised and re-used as architectural operators.
